The doctors wouldn’t know for sure unless they operated on my middle ear but they think one of the tiny bones in the ear, probably the stapes (or stirrup) degraded. I’ve learned to get by, but I’ve never really gotten used to the hearing loss — it has changed my life. As for technology, it keeps evolving, so I may try another aid. Of course, they’re very expensive, and not covered by my health insurance.
